Storage Tank Inspection & Maintenance Services

Storage tank inspection and maintenance Services are crucial aspects of a facility’s preventive maintenance program. American Fiberglass Tank’s (AFTR) experienced field crews and customer service engineers have conducted numerous field inspections and surveys, assessing the shell integrity and corrosion coat condition of fiberglass vessels across various industries. AFTR understands the methodologies required to evaluate the condition of composite tanks used for processing and storage, whether it’s for potable water, deionized water, caustic chemicals, acidic chemical solutions, or food processing.

While AFTR often receives service requests related to visible issues or elective changes to vessels, it is essential to recognize that fiberglass/composite storage poltank inspections play a vital role in preventing potential problems. Due to the unique materials and components used in these tanks, containment breaches can occur before any noticeable signs of trouble emerge. Therefore, conducting a comprehensive inspection survey is fundamental, involving the examination of the interior corrosion coat, internal body, exterior shell, as well as the nozzles and other incorporated interfaces of the fiberglass tank. AFTR’s inspection personnel, including our Customer Support Engineers, develop and oversee the inspection protocols in collaboration with our crews. Furthermore, our inspection services are supervised by Fiberglass Tank & Pipe Institute certified inspectors.

Routine periodic inspections of composite/FRP tanks are essential in maintaining the integrity of storage vessels. By implementing inspection programs designed to preserve the corrosion layers, major problems can often be avoided. AFTR offers interior and exterior inspections for tanks, either on a periodic schedule or as a one-time event. Our inspections provide detailed reports that highlight the existing surface and structural conditions, along with recommendations for necessary actions. With preventative services, unexpected and untimely tank failures can be minimized.

To establish an effective inspection program at your facility, consult with your FRP Customer Engineer, who can provide valuable guidance and assistance. Taking proactive measures through regular inspections will help ensure the longevity and reliability of your fiberglass tanks.

Fiberglass Tank Testing Methods

A hydrostatic test alone just reveals a vessel’s ability to contain the liquid product at that exact moment in time. An inspection, employing such industry techniques as interior/exterior visual and instrument inspections to reveal spidering, disbondment, abrasion wear, emulsification, Barcol hardness, floor stress cracking, shell distortion and ultraviolet degradation, is an integral part of an overall survey. A fiberglass tank may pass a hydrostatic test today, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will pass three months from now.

AFTR employs Ultrasonic, Laser and High Intensity Backlight testing methods to help determine not just what the surfaces show, but what is going on in the structural body of the tank including capillary migration of liquid product under the corrosion coat. Detecting such problems early makes repairs simpler and can add many years of useful service life to a fiberglass tank.

At AFTR we believe the best surprise is no surprise at all.
